After a two week search for the missing Growing Pains star, Andrew Koenig was found dead, his body hanging from a tree in a park in Vancouver. Andrew's parents released a statement to reporters shortly after the body was identified that their son had taken his own life and they hope people can learn from this tragedy that there are people out there who really care.
Now in the wake of this tragic loss we are struck again by the passing of another 80s teen star, 38 year-old Corey Haim
According to reporters Corey had a fever Tuesday and was having trouble breathing. His mother Judy, stated that she was awakened around midnight to find Corey standing over her and then he collapsed. Corey's mother then called 911...."but by the time the ambulance arrived 20 minutes had passed and it was too late," reports Corey's agent.
Police have stated that they think it may have been a drug overdose, TMZ reports;
Corey Haim collapsed in the bedroom of his mother's apartment and four prescription bottles were found nearby...law enforcement.
We've learned Corey had been sick the last couple of days with flu-like symptoms. The medications recovered, however, were not related to his illness.
We're told no illicit drugs were found in the apartment.
But friends close to the star, do not believe Corey overdosed and says Corey was on his way to making a comeback. One of Corey's friends who has been desperately trying to relay this message to the public, is probably the star's closest friend and often co-star, Corey Feldman. Feldman was on "Larry King Live" last night, where he called Haim his "best friend."
Feldman went on to say that although Haim had a "long and detailed drug history and battled addiction for many, many years" -- but said Haim had been "in the best frame of mind that he's ever been in" leading up to his death and he wants people to "stop jumping the gun" -- because until the coroner's report comes out, "nobody knows" what really caused his death.
In the statement, which Feldman posted on his blog, the actor says, "My eyes weren't even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face." He adds, "We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference." The post concludes, "I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived."
Other Teen Stars who died too young......
Brad Renfro, break-away young star of the hit movie 'The Client' died from drug overdose at age 25.
Jonathan Brandis, who starred in the notable movies such as ''The Neverending Story II' and 'Ladybugs,' hung himself at the age of 27.
Why do we lose some many talented young stars to depression and drugs?
